DOWNTOWN ENSUITES

A Renovation Project with tEMPLETON BUILDING COMPANY

We had such a wonderful time helping these two sweet empty nesters update their en suites for when their children and grandchildren visit!

In the main guest room, we aimed to create a more luxurious, fashionable space for when the kids come in from New York. Brass fixtures, mixed marbles, and warm wood tones give this space a fresh aesthetic without being stark. The shower features a gorgeous custom mosaic on the feature wall and niches, and is paired perfectly with larger, coordinating marble field tiles.

Previously a dark, enclosed shower with only a narrow glass door, the new shower offers a bright, open space that’s just as pleasant to look at as it is to use! This shower features a stunning brass rainhead for adults, and a handshower on a sliding bar that’s ideal for helping young kids shower!

Across the hall, the secondary guest suite offers a calm, slightly more feminine touch to suit their daughter when she comes into town with her family. The previous bathroom in this suite was dated, and had a small bathtub shoved into a corner. We took the opportunity to rework the footprint slightly, in order to integrate a larger, more open shower in the otherwise tight space. Shifting the bathroom door slightly also allowed us to implement a changing space immediately outside the glass shower, and still maintain a partition wall in front of the toilet for privacy.

A floral inspired marble mosaic brings a soft, feminine element to the space. Adding wainscoting the curved wall ensured no area was neglected, and allowed us to really finish off the space nicely in a polished fashion. Light neutral paint tones give the space a calm feel, while making the space feel larger and airier than before.

The “grandkid suite” is the only upstairs bathroom with a bathtub. In this space we kept the palette simple, but playful to suit the intended users. Terrazzo floor tiles and scalloped wall tiles at the bath offer an unexpected, fun touch while keeping a light, clean palette. The glass doors at the tub bifold and swing to clear the way when giving a child a bath, and can be easily swung back into place for splash time! Speaking of door swings, while we couldn’t modify the floor plan of this bathroom, we were able to change the door swing to offer substantially more interior clearance inside the bathroom for multiple children to use at one time, or adults helping children in the space.

A dark quartz countertop at the vanity is reminiscent of a more traditional, inset vanity with soapstone, yet the quartz offers a clean, durable surface for young children without having to worry about maintenance. The sconces above feature an oil-rubbed bronze finish to tie these two darker, contrasting elements together. The rest of the bathroom fixtures are polished nickel, which was used throughout the rest of the home.
