Birmingham Brightens Up
This Birmingham home underwent a comprehensive remodel to shift from dark, traditional ‘Old World’ to a bright and clean transitional style. This was achieved by replacing dark cabinetry and beige trim with crisp whites that were still warm enough to complement this home.
The kitchen features predominantly bright, but warm white cabinetry. Instead of doing the island in a contrasting finish, a statement armoire was designed with a unique cool-toned stain on walnut to house the refrigerator, pantry, and speed oven. Custom cabinetry and matching panels were used to replace a former standard, small walk in pantry. Immediately off the kitchen, the butler’s pantry underwent and overhaul to embrace the brighter aesthetic, while also adding a wainscot feature wall with shelving to display favorite wine and spirits.
In a household with three young boys, things can get a bit chaotic. The homeowners looked to us to create a master bath that would act more as a calm retreat than a utilitarian space. Carrara marble and subtle blue undertones began to set the stage for this serene space. Larger honed carrara marble floor tiles were laid in a staggered pattern to elongate the space, while white marble mosaics inlaid into the floor and shower provide additional visual interest. Wainscoting and pivot mirrors present unique elements that add a classic, elegant and timeless feel to the space. A large drop-in tub was removed and replaced with a lighter freestanding tub that allowed room to enlarge the glass shower. With its clean, refined palette, white millwork, and polished accents, this tranquil retreat still provides plenty of visual interest.
